Maslenitsa celebrations in Izhevsk

On February 29, the city festival Maslenitsa (Pancake week) was held in the Central Square.

On that day it was possible to learn the history of Maslenitsa, watch a theatrical performance, try delicious pancakes and even participate in their preparation.

Izhevsk citizens, who came to Maslenitsa, were greeted by Oleg Garin, the Chairman of the Izhevsk City Council, Vitaly Tyulpin, the Head of the Russian Culture Center ‘Russian House’, and Rashid Khusnutdinov, the Chairman of the Public Chamber of the Udmurt Republic.

Oleg Garin, on behalf of the deputies of the Izhevsk City Council and the Izhevsk City Administration, congratulated everyone, ‘Today, we say goodbye to winter and welcome spring. The weather shows that winter doesn’t want to leave, but you and I know that spring will take over anyway.’

Izhevsk residents participated in a Pancake Week dance, Russian folk games, fun, sports and gaming competitions for children and adults. At the end of the evening, according to tradition, they burned a Pancake scarecrow.

Festive events also took place in the Kirov Park, on sports fields on Tverskaya Street, near the club ‘Friendship’, on the farm ‘Medvedevo’, at the stadium of the Schools № 77, 80, 100, and in many other locations.
